Good Links vs Bad Links

June 28, 2012

Getting links to your chiropractic site is important. The more people that link to you, the more authority your site has according to the major search engines. Google assumes that if people are linking to you, you must have content that people like.

Because of the value of inbound links, people get tempted to buy links. For years, this used to work, but Google has put the kibosh on this with their recent updates.

Search Engine Watch recently published a good article on this.

Today, one of our clients called, upset that their site had dropped off the front page of Google. After a little digging, we found a bunch of spammy blog posts from August of last year. When we asked the doctor about this, he told us an "SEO expert" had helped him with his site for "just" $400.

Well, that $400 is going to cost a lot more, because now all of those bad links need to be removed and Google needs to be convinced that the site isn't spam. Not much of a bargain, if you ask me.

Don't make this mistake! Focus on creating original content that's relevant to your patients and find some local businesses or friends who will give you a link. But don't go out and pay an "SEO expert."
